Two Residencies, a Teapot and
a Nudist Beach

A four-person exhibition by Joi Murugavell and Raphy, with guest artists Benjamin Pattin and Matt Frock.

Friends can be found anywhere. Sometimes they live next door, sometimes they live in your phone. Two Residencies, a Teapot and a Nudist Beach brings together two artists who are geographically far apart, but remain close through constant exchange—always present in each other’s pockets.

The title can also be read as a kind of stumbling through new experiences, while trying not to cloud them with old habits, fixed ideas, or heavy thinking. That was always part of the intention. In 2023, Murugavell attended a residency in Spain, while Raphy attended one in Mexico. They stayed in close contact like penpals, sharing images and stories as they moved through their time away from home in Australia. The works in this exhibition grow out of that shared, distant conversation and are presented together at Frock Gallery in Belgium.
